Why Should I use a Monitor?
Heart Rate monitors serve the purpose of measuring and recording your heart rate, while providing instant feedback about the work load of your heart. Heart fitness is a key aerobic endurance - sometimes called 'cardiovascular respiratory endurance'. Aerobic endurance is a point of focus for runners and other athletes. Heart monitors are the most effective aids for tracking and developing progress towards increased aerobic endurance.
How Does a Heart Rate Monitor Work?
Most hear rate monitors have two parts: a strap-like piece that you wear around your chest and a receiver unit that displays or records data. The monitor piece worn around your chest has sensor pads that must be in direct contact with your skin for the unit to work. Data from the monitor piece is usually sent wirelessly to the data display / recording piece. The data display piece receives heart rate signals from the monitor piece.
What’s the difference between my pulse and my heart rate?
Heart Rate is the number of times your heart contracts during a certain time period. It is measured in beats per minute. Pulse Rate is the number of pulsations per minute caused by the flow of blood through an artery. Measuring your heart rate is a much more accurate indicator of how your heart is performing. Heart rate monitors are tested for accuracy, pulse monitors are not.
What is resting heart rate?
This is a person's heart rate at rest. The best time to find out your resting heart rate is in the morning, after a good night's sleep, and before you get out of bed.
The heart beats about 60 to 80 times a minute when we're at rest. Resting heart rate usually rises with age, and it's generally lower in physically fit people. Resting heart rate is used to determine one's training target heart rate. Athletes sometimes measure their resting heart rate as one way to find out if they're overtrained. The heart rate adapts to changes in the body's need for oxygen, such as during exercise or sleep.
What’s Heart Rate Recovery?
Heart rate recovery, or HRR, is used as a fitness measurement. A fit person's heart rate at the end of high levels of activity will quikcly drop down to the normal resting heart rate. Taking the first 30 seconds of rest period gives a value in number of beats per minute or bpm.
What is Maximum Heart Rate Percentage?
Maximum Heart Rate is a heart rate value that can produce physical exhaustion. The Maximum Heart Rate percentage indicates how close you are to reaching this value. For most people, the maximum benefits of physical activities lie within 55% and 75% of their maximum heart rate. The Reebok Heart rate monitor calculates your maximum heart rate based on the personal information you have entered (gender, age, weight, resting heart rate)
